Motor Vehicle Break-ins and Stolen Motor Vehicles

Graham Police department

Motor Vehicle Break-ins and Stolen Motor Vehicles

Since February 7, 2024, the Graham Police Department has noted a concerning rise in Motor Vehicle Thefts and Attempted Motor Vehicle Thefts across our city.

To date, there have been 15 vehicles stolen and 8 additional attempted thefts. It's crucial for our community to stay informed and vigilant.

Most of the stolen vehicles fall within the Kia and Hyundai range of model years 2011 to 2021. Shockingly, some of these thefts occurred because vehicles were left unlocked. In other cases, perpetrators have resorted to breaking vehicle glass to gain access. These crimes are predominantly happening in apartment complexes during the nighttime hours.

Back in 2022, a troubling TikTok challenge emerged, demonstrating how to steal certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles using a USB cord. Unfortunately, it seems this trend persists.

Both manufacturers have responded by implementing security updates and other measures to mitigate risks. We urge Kia and Hyundai owners to connect with their local dealerships to explore options for safeguarding their vehicles.

Our Criminal Investigations Division is actively probing these motor vehicle thefts, while our patrol units have intensified monitoring in and around apartment complexes to deter further incidents.

Your safety is our priority, and we need your help to keep our community secure.

If you notice anything suspicious or encounter unfamiliar individuals in your apartment complex or neighborhood, don't hesitate to contact us or dial 911 immediately.

We're also seeking assistance from the community. If you have any information that could aid in identifying the individuals responsible for these recent thefts, please reach out to the Criminal Investigations Division at 336-570-6711, Burlington/Graham Communications at (336)229-3500, Crime Stoppers at (336)229-7100, or utilize the P3 Mobile App at P3TIPS.com.

Let's work together to ensure Graham remains a safe place for all. Stay alert, stay safe! Crime of the Week - Alamance County Crime Stoppers (3) #GrahamPolice #CommunitySafety #StayVigilant
