Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (2024)

Here are the fastest teams in Madden 23 based on Outsider Gaming’s Speed Score.

Contents

  • 1 1. Miami Dolphins (386 Speed Score)
  • 2 2. Seattle Seahawks (382 Speed Score)
  • 3 3. Carolina Panthers (289 Speed Score)
  • 4 4. Arizona Cardinals (286 Speed Score)
  • 5 5. Kansas City (286 Speed Score)
  • 6 6. Indianapolis Colts (282 Speed Score)
  • 7 7. Detroit Lions (192 Speed Score)

In football, while not always the deciding factor, speed plays a huge role in creating separation for receivers and halfbacks or closing in on ballcarriers on defense. Sometimes, speed is overvalued to the detriment of their team – think of the then-Oakland Raiders drafting Darrius Heyward-Bey because of his 40-yard dash time – while others favor speed for specific situations, like punt and kick returns.

Below, you will find the fastest teams in Madden 23 as calculated by Outsider Gaming’s Speed Score. It’s important to note that this isn’t a full list of all of the fastest players or even those with at least 90+ in their Speed attribute. Depending on your own formula, you may have a different list of fastest teams.

Note that the rosters were accessed August 23, 2022 and the below is subject to change with player updates throughout the season.

Calculating Speed Scores in Madden 23

The Speed Score is calculated by adding together the Speed attributes of every player with at least a 94 Speed attribute on all 32 teams. For example, if a team has three players with Speed attributes of 95, 97, and 94, the Speed Score would be 286.

There are no teams with more than four players with at least a 94 Speed attribute. However, there are two teams with four players of at least 94 Speed. On the other hand, there are 13 teams with only one player with a 94 Speed attribute, leaving seven teams that have no player with at least 94 in Speed (though many have players at 93 Speed).

Here are the fastest teams in Madden 23 by Speed Score. The eight teams listed will have at least three players of at least 94 Speed.

1. Miami Dolphins (386 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (1)

Fastest Players: Tyreke Hill, WR (99 Speed); Jaylen Waddle, WR (97 Speed); Raheem Mostert, HB (95 Speed); Keion Crossen, CB (95 Speed)

Miami was already a speedy team, led by Jaylen Waddle (97 Speed), but made three key offseason additions that have increased the speed of their team. Namely, they traded for former Kansas City star receiver Tyreke Hill, arguably the fastest player in the NFL. They then added Keion Crossen (95 Speed) and Raheem Mostert (95 Speed) – who came from San Francisco in the footsteps of new head coach and former 49ers assistant Mike McDaniel.

That speed should help immensely on offense for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is in a make-it-or-break-it season in the eyes of many fans and analysts. He’s no plodder, either, with 82 Speed himself. A bonafide WR1 in Hill to take pressure off of second-year Waddle, plus Mostert’s speed and versatility out of the backfield, should give Tagovailoa the weapons he needs to succeed – pending health and offensive line play.

2. Seattle Seahawks (382 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (2)

Fastest Players: Tariq Woolen, CB (97 Speed); Marquise Goodwin, WR (96 Speed); D.K. Metcalf, WR (95 Speed); Bo Melton, WR (94 Speed)

There’s one positive for Seattle in lieu of the departure of now-Denver quarterback Russell Wilson: the Seahawks are fast and will “fly” around the field. D.K. Metcalf (95 Speed) is joined by new signee Marquise Goodwin (96 Speed) and 2022 draftee Bo Melton (94 Speed) to form one of the speediest trio of receivers in the NFL should Melton (68 OVR) hit the field. Even without Melton, WR1 Tyler Lockett has 93 Speed, just missing the 94 Speed cut. That should help quarterbacks Drew Lock and Geno Smith, neither of whom is likely to be the starter for the entire season. Tariq Woolen (97 Speed) is actually the fastest player on the roster, but is unlikely to see much playing as he is rated 66 OVR in Madden 23.

Just remember that with Seattle, you’ll firmly be in a rebuild, though bringing back one of the dominant teams of the 2010s will be easier than others in Madden 23.

3. Carolina Panthers (289 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (3)

Fastest Players: Kalon Barnes, CB (98 Speed); Robbie Anderson, WR (96 Speed); Donte Jackson, CB (95 Speed)

Carolina is a fast team in two key areas: the secondary and wide receivers. Kalon Barns (98 Speed) should he play (64 OVR) and Donte Jackson (95 Speed) lead (speed-wise) a group of defensive backs that also include Jeremy Chinn (93 Speed), C.J. Henderson (93 Speed), Jaycee Horn (92 Speed), and Myles Harfield (92 Speed) to help them close on balls and on intended targets.

On offense, newly-named and acquired starting quarterback Baker Mayfield has speedsters Robbie Anderson (96 Speed), D.J. Moore (93 Speed), Shi Smith (91 Speed), and Terrace Marshall, Jr. (91 Speed) to hopefully create some big plays. Don’t forget about all-world halfback Christian McCaffrey and his 91 Speed out of the backfield or lined up as a receiver.

4. Arizona Cardinals (286 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (4)

Fastest Players: Marquise Brown, WR (97 Speed); Andy Isabella, WR (95 Speed); Rondale Moore, WR (94 Speed)

If Seattle has one of the fastest receiving trios in the league, then Arizona arguably has the speediest trio of receivers in the NFL. Arizona’s speed is well-suited for the home stadium and with the likes of Marquise Brown (97 Speed), Andy Isabella (95 Speed), and Rondale Moore (94 Speed), they should fly open for quarterback Kyler Murray (92 Speed), who can keep plays alive with his speed and elusiveness. The key issue for Isabella is playing time, listed as the fifth receiver by overall rating (70) on Arizona in Madden 23. Still, even without Isabella, the Cardinals trot out WR1 DeAndre Hopkins (90 Speed) and longtime Cincinnati star A.J. Green (87 Speed), giving Arizona speed from WR1 through WR5.

On defense, they’re led by sleeper candidate Isaiah Simmons (93 Speed) at middle linebacker. Though they’re unlikely to see the field due to their lower ratings, defensive backs Marco Wilson (92 Speed) and James Wiggins (91 Speed) pace the secondary, though Budda Baker (91 Speed) is the stalwart there. Outside of Simmons, the front seven doesn’t have much speed – the next front seven member by Speed attribute is Dennis Gardeck (85 Speed) – so do your best to keep linebackers out of man coverage.

5. Kansas City (286 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (5)

Fastest Players: Mecole Hardman, WR (97 Speed); Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR (95 Speed); L’Jarius Sneed, CB (94 Speed)

Even with the loss of Hill, Kansas City still has a fast team. While JuJu Smith-Schuster (87 Speed) is slightly ahead of Mecole Hardman (97 Speed) by overall rating (80 to 79), Hardman should become Patrick Mahomes’ top wideout target without Hill, and his blistering speed helps him replicate Hill’s effect on the defense somewhat. Just behind him is Marquez Valdes-Scantling (95 Speed). Starting halfback Clyde Edwards-Helaire comes in with a respectable 86 Speed, and don’t forget about Mahomes with his 84 Speed!

Defensively, the secondary is solid with L’Jarius Snead (94 Speed), Justin Reid (93 Speed), and potentially Nazeeh Johnson (93 Speed, 65 OVR) and Trent McDuffie (91 Speed, 76 OVR). Leo Chenal and Willie Gay (both 88 Speed), plus Nick Bolton (87 Speed), form a solid trio of backers by speed, but not enough to keep up with the speediest receivers. Still, Kansas City should prove a menace on either side thanks to their overall speed.

6. Indianapolis Colts (282 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (6)

Fastest Players: Isaiah Rodgers, CB (94 Speed); Parris Campbell, WR (94 Speed); Jonathan Taylor, HB (94 Speed)

Indianapolis is led in speed by a trio of players with 94 in the attribute. First is cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and with Stephon Gilmore (90 Speed) and Kenny Moore II (89 Speed), they form a strong starting back line of defense.

Second is wideout Parris Campbell, who will slot in behind Michael Pittman, Jr. (88 Speed) as WR2. Ashton Dulin, Alec Pierce, and De’Michael Harris all have 92 Speed, while WR3 Keke Coutee has 91 Speed.

Third is arguably the best player on the Colts in halfback Jonathan Taylor (94 Speed). Taylor (95 OVR) should prove to be a nice safety valve for new quarterback Matt Ryan both on handoffs and as a receiving back. Having the kind of speed Indianapolis has at halfback and wideout will be imperative for a traditional pocket passer like Ryan (69 Speed).

7. Detroit Lions (192 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (7)

Fastest Players: Jameson Williams, WR (98 Speed); D.J. Chark, Jr., WR (94 Speed)

Detroit, a franchise that has had far more ups than downs, has two receivers of 94 Speed to lead the way with Jameson Williams and D.J. Chark, Jr. Right behind them are Kalif Raymond (93 Speed) and Trinity Benson (91 Speed), rounding out the speed of the receiving corps. Starting halfback D’Andre Swift (90 Speed) provides speed out of the backfield, too.

The corners are led in speed by Jeff Okudah (91 Speed), then Mike Hughes and Will Harris (both 90 Speed) and Amani Oruwariye (89 Speed). Both starting safeties also provide great speed on the backend, with free safety Tracy Walker III (89 Speed) and strong safety DeShon Elliott (87 Speed) the last line of defense.

8. Cleveland Browns (190 Speed Score)

Madden 23: Fastest Teams - Outsider Gaming (8)

Fastest Players: Anthony Schwartz, WR (96 Speed); Denzel Ward, CB (94 Speed)

Cleveland’s team has great speed at the receiver and defensive back positions. Anthony Schwartz (96 Speed) won’t play every down, but the WR4 combines with WR1 Amari Cooper (91 Speed), Jakeem Grant, Sr. (93 Speed), and Donovan Peoples-Jones (90 Speed) for a quick foursome of receivers. Halfback Nick Chubb isn’t too far from the party with his 92 Speed and 96 OVR.

The secondary is led by Denzel Ward (94 Speed, 92 OVR), Greg Newsome II (93 Speed), and Greedy Williams (93 Speed), all cornerbacks. They should be able to keep up with the speediest of receivers in coverage. In the middle, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has 89 Speed at right outside linebacker, Sione Takitaki on his other side with 85 Speed. They should be fine covering most tight ends, but avoid matching them up with receivers.

Fastest teams by number of fast players and Speed Score

Here are all of the Madden teams with multiple players who have at least 94 Speed, followed by the team’s overall Speed Score. Of the 12 teams, the NFC North leads the way as three of its four teams have multiple players of 94 Speed, with Chicago the only team in the division not on the list as they have one player, wideout Velus Jones, Jr., with 94 Speed. By Speed Score standards, the NFC North is by far the fastest division in the NFL.
